Fireworks

The fireworks show can be experienced every Saturday in the skies above the Concert Hall. The show features magnificent fireworks set to the music from The Magic Flute by Mozart.

We use the night sky as a backdrop, where fireworks and music merge above Tivoli’s Concert Hall.

The fireworks show can be enjoyed in the areas around The Open Air stage, in front of the Glass Hall, and near Nimb. Certain areas around Tivoli Concert Hall may be cordoned off depending on weather and wind conditions.

Fireworks have a long tradition in Tivoli.

The park’s founder, Georg Carstensen, organized performances featuring “Bengal flames” as a major attraction even before Tivoli’s first season in 1843. At that time, a fireworks factory was located near the City Moat, just behind Divan 2. The fireworks themselves were launched from a platform just outside the park. This arrangement was necessary because fireworks could not be transported over long distances, but they also couldn’t be ignited directly among the audience due to the unsafe nature of the chemicals.

Fireworks displays were held on special festive evenings, which also included what was known as brilliant illumination. This involved lighting buildings, trees, and flower beds. It was no simple task, as the lights were glass containers filled with oil, each fitted with a small floating wick and mounted in various holders. Each lamp had to be lit manually. An evening of festive lighting always ended with a fireworks display. Tivoli’s first resident pyrotechnician was Gaëtano Amici, whom Carstensen invited from Italy.

The firework can be cancelled in case of bad weather conditions.
