Tivoli celebrates Denmark's Liberation
Join us as we celebrate Denmark's Liberationday in Tivoli.
Denmark was freed on May 5, 1945. It is a tradition to mark this by placing lights in the windows on the evening of May 4th. This tradition will also be felt in Tivoli, where light will take center stage in the evening on May 4th.
Liberation Message Followed by Torch Parade and Music from the Tivoli Guard on May 4th
The Tivoli Gardens Band and the Flag Guard will, on this special evening, take part in a torch parade starting from The Open Air Stage. At 20:35, the liberation message will be played from The Open Air Stage —this is the exact time the message was broadcasted by the BBC 80 years ago. Afterward, the torches will be lit to the sound of trumpets, after which the Tivoli Guard will take a atmospheric tour of the garden.
80 Lanterns in the fountain in front of Nimb
In the fountain in front of Nimb, there will be 80 lanterns—one for each year Denmark has been free. The lanterns will be visible both on May 4th and May 5th.
