The Tivoli Youth Guard's Parade

Experience Living Music History with the World's Oldest Youth Guard

On summer season weekends, you can witness living music history as the world's oldest youth guard, dressed in striking red uniform jackets and bearskin hats, marches from the Tivoli Castle and through the Gardens.

The Tivoli Youth Guard’s parade, consisting of approximately 100 guards, begins and ends from the Tivoli Castle, where the ceremonial part of the parade takes place in accordance with Danish military tradition. Here, the Banner March is performed as the flag is brought to the center of the parade. A concert piece is then played on the Lawn before the Tivoli Youth Guard continues its march through the Gardens.

During the parade, guests can enjoy a wide selection of Danish and international marches—featuring music by Tivoli’s own resident composer, H.C. Lumbye, as well as newer marches written especially for the Tivoli Youth Guard, which this year celebrates its 180th anniversary.
