Comprising around 170 singers, the Copenhagen Girls’ Choir (Sankt Annæ Pigekor) performs a delightful program of songs from Denmark and around the world. Selected and arranged specifically for the choir, these pieces showcase a wide stylistic range and musical depth. This repertoire has resonated with millions of children worldwide for generations as lullabies, play songs, and more.
This spring, the Copenhagen Girls’ Choir embarked on a European tour, gathering new musical inspiration, including the featured piece, Prik i historien.
In this concert, the choir is accompanied by a jazz trio featuring some of Denmark’s finest jazz musicians.
The Copenhagen Girls’ Choir is recognised as one of the leading choirs both in Denmark and internationally. Based at Sankt Annæ Gymnasium (elementary and upper-secondary school), the choir provides vocal training to singers from the 3rd grade. From the 6th to 9th grade, they engage in extensive concert activities.
A key element of the choir’s identity is commissioning new music for treble voices, ensuring that the art form reflects contemporary perspectives, often with roots in the classical tradition from which the choir originates. In October 2024, the choir won the main prize in the prestigious Let the People Sing choral competition organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), a competition held since 1961.
Anne-Terese Sales is the chief conductor of the Copenhagen Girls’ Choir and conductor of Vokalensemblet Vigdis. In 2024, she and the choir won the main prize at the European Broadcasting Union’s prestigious competition, Let the People Sing. She is also a sought-after instructor and jury member at choral festivals and competitions.
