The Ballet School’s History
From vision to reality
The Ballet School’s History
Dance and ballet have always been an integral part of the spirit of Tivoli Gardens. Pantomime performances have graced Tivoli since the Gardens opened in 1843, and ballet joined the repertoire in 1911. In 2012, the company was named Tivoli Ballet Theatre, and in the same year, Tivoli Ballet School was established with former Royal Danish Ballet soloist, Peter Bo Bendixen, as artistic director.
Tivoli Gardens’ enduring legacy of music education for young people through the Tivoli Youth Guard found its parallel in the world of dance in 2012 with the establishment of the Tivoli Ballet School.
Since its inception, Tivoli Ballet School has experienced significant growth, which continues to benefit and inspire ballet enthusiasts of all levels – including the most ambitious. Over the years, alumni from Tivoli Ballet School have in several cases been accepted into the Royal Danish Ballet School and other renowned ballet schools around the world.
The presence of Tivoli Ballet School alumni in the Tivoli Ballet Theatre also exemplifies the realisation of a close relationship between the school and the company.
